Anna Torv Joins HBO’s ‘The Last of Us’ as Tess

Anna Torv in Mindhunter

The Last of Us has found a new face for Tess in Anna Torv.

TV Line reported the news, which state that the Fringe and Mindhunter veteran is joining HBO’s adaptation of the video game in a recurring role. In the game, Tess is a tough smuggler and good friend of Joel, who is being played by Pedro Pascal. However, her part is kind of short-lived and limited only to the first few sections of the game. Of course, we’re fully expecting the series to expand on the game’s story and characters, but it seems like they’re sticking closely to the original plot, so we’ll see for how long she truly sticks around in this iteration.

Anna Torv joins a cast headlined by Pedro Pascal (Joel Miller), who is now rocking the TV world as the main character in the ongoing Star Wars Disney Plus series The Mandalorian, and Bella Ramsey (Ellie), whom you might know from Game of Thrones. Gabriel Luna (Terminator: Dark Fate) will be playing Joel’s brother, Tommy. The cast has also grown bigger recently with the addition of Nico Parker and Merle Dandridge (who also worked on the original game), among others.

Russian filmmaker Kantemir Balagov (Beanpole) is directing the pilot episode of The Last of Us, a co-production with Sony Pictures Television. We don’t know about any other directors yet. PlayStation Productions, Word Games, The Mighty Mint, and Naughty Dog are jointly producing the TV series, based on the video game developed by Naughty Dog exclusively for the PlayStation platforms. The script comes from Chernobyl creator Craig Mazin, who also penned Eli Roth’s Borderlands film adaptation, and TLOU creator Neil Druckmann.

The story takes place 20 years after modern civilization has crumbled. Joel, a hardened survivor with a troubled past, is hired to smuggle Ellie, a seemingly normal 14-year-old girl, out of an oppressive quarantine zone. What starts as a small job soon becomes a brutal, heartbreaking journey, as they both must traverse across what remains of the States.
