Netflix’s The Irishman Drops New Trailer

Robert De Niro in The Irishman

Netflix has released a new trailer for its original The Irishman, directed by Martin Scorsese and starring Robert De Niro.

The new trailer gives you a better idea of what the story is about. In a very witty and punchy opening scene, we see a de-aged Robert De Niro interviewed by a lawyer played by Ray Romano (Everybody Loves Raymond, True Detective) about his life as a taxi driver, which will surely bring a feeling of nostalgia to those who have watched the Taxi Driver film also directed by Scorsese and starring De Niro.

We then see some short bursts of De Niro seriously hurting people while on the job and meet with some Italian mafia members who recruit him to do some shady activities involving John F. Kennedy. It’s then hinted throughout the trailer that De Niro’s character may have been directly involved with the JFK shooting. The trailer treats the shooting a little more lightheartedly than you might expect, but the tone of this film seems pretty similar to Scorsese’s previous productions so a little wit was always to be expected.

Also starring in the film is a de-aged Al Pacino and de-aged Joe Pesci, as well as Harvey Keitel (Pulp Fiction), Bobby Cannavale  (Mr. Robot, Jumanji) and Jesse Plemons (Breaking Bad, Fargo).

The trailer makes it look like The Irishman will be a funny and exhilarating mobster film. Netflix doesn’t have the best of records with its original films, but at the moment it looks like The Irishman has a very strong chance of bucking that trend.
