Alan Tudyk to Voice Iago in Disney’s ‘Aladdin’

Iago
Yesterday Disney released the full trailer for Aladdin, but with the movie set to open in May there was still one cast member hidden in the Cave of Wonders. Iago. Now, The Hollywood Reporter have confirmed that Alan Tudyk will be voicing Jafar’s villainous parrot.

Described as “Disney’s lucky charm”, Tudyk has leant his voice to characters in every movie Walt Disney Animation has released since 2012’s Wreck-It Ralph, as well as playing K-2SO in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Now he’s all set to give voice to one of Disney’s favorite evil sidekicks.

Iago

Voiced by comedian Gilbert Gottfried in the original movie, the loud mouthed and obnoxious Iago quickly became a fan favorite character. So much so that Disney ultimately redeemed the character in the direct to video Return of Jafar so that he could appear in the animated series and Aladdin and the King of Thieves.

Though we haven’t heard the live action Iago speak, we have seen him flying around in all of the trailers so far, with yesterday’s full trailer teasing at a giant role for the evil parrot in what looked to be the film’s climax. With Gottfried having such a unique voice, it’s going to be interesting to see Tudyk’s approach to the role.

Disney’s Aladdin is directed by Guy Ritchie and opens May 24th.
