‘Orphan Black’ Sequel Series in Development at AMC

Orphan Black
A new series set in the same universe as Orphan Black is in development. The new show will not be set to air on Space or BBC America, but on AMC. The people at AMC are also working with Temple Street Productions, who worked on the original show.

According to Variety, a continuation of some kind for the Orphan Black is in the early stages of development. Although Variety was hesitant to use the term “spin-off” to describe how this show relates to Orphan Black itself, that’s what this new project sounds like – it’s just that we won’t be following an established character. It’s a completely new tale that just so happens to be set in the same world.

Orphan Black concerned itself with the story of Sarah Manning, a British-Canadian who discovers that she is one of several clones (all but one of whom are portrayed by Tatiana Maslany) living in the present day. When she finds herself in the midst of a dangerous conspiracy that is hunting her genetic sisters down, Manning must work together with her fellow doppelgängers to protect the people she loves most. The show ran for five full seasons, telling a complete story of self-discovery, individualism, and female empowerment. While fans probably would like to catch up with Clone Club after a time skip, the series kind of had a perfect, self-contained ending, and there’s no sense in disrupting it.

The producers of the new show are currently looking for writers, and are currently seeking the right pitch with how to approach this new story, suggesting that Temple Street Productions do not currently have a specific plot in mind just yet. It is currently unknown if Maslany, who won an Emmy for her multiple performances in the third season, will be involved in any significant capacity with this new series.

The untitled Orphan Black follow-up series is in development at AMC.
