‘The Flash’ Moving Forward Again as Directors Rewrite Script

The Flash
While The Flash was originally expected to arrive in 2018, but a series of creative changes for the movie’s narrative and some shake-ups for who would write and direct the movie have caused it to be pushed back significantly. Here’s some good news: the project is moving forward again as directors John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein are developing a new script for the Scarlet Speedster.

GeeksWorldWide reports that Daley and Goldstein have been working on the script to The Flash for a while, and though it was originally set to be an adaptation of the Flash-centric crossover event Flashpoint, the directors have instead opted to go with a smaller, more personal story for Barry Allen. This is consistent with the what DC Films are currently up to, as the immediate focus for the setting is to have a bunch of standalones happening in different areas of the same universe (unless you’re talking about that Joker movie with Joaquin Phoenix, but that’s the exception and not the rule).

By the time this movie arrives, The CW’s ongoing The Flash series will probably have wrapped up, giving the movie division more room to make use of the character. As of right now, Ezra Miller is expected to return, but filming the project seems to depend entirely on when he’s got an opening in his schedule between filming Fantastic Beasts installments. (Miller recently issued a statement explaining that the movie is still coming, and patience will be rewarded.) As long as Miller is back, then both Kiersey Clemons and Billy Crudup are expected to appear as Iris West and Henry Allen. Both were cast in Justice League, though the former had her role cut from the final film. Michael Disco is joining the project as a producer.
