Bourne Series ‘Treadstone’ Gets a Series Order

Treadstone
USA Network is set to shine a light on the shadowy program behind super spy Jason Bourne next year. Variety announced this week that Treadstone has received a full season order from the network.

The new drama, written and executive produced by Tim Kring, is set to explore the clandestine actions of the black ops program. It will be set both in the present day, following mysterious sleeper agents from around the world who have been “awakened” to continue their deadly missions, and in the past, exploring in detail the origins of the sinister super spy program.

At the moment it’s unclear whether the series will have any direct ties to the Bourne movie series. Ben Smith and Jeffrey Weiner are executive producing on behalf of Captive Entertainment (the production company behind the movie franchise) but none of the reports have claimed any direct links to the film series. With the latest film, Jason Bourne, revealing that Bourne’s father created the program, and the new series set to explore the origins of the operation, we should get a feel early on whether or not the series is a spin-off from the movies or completely stand alone.

Ramin Bahrani will direct the pilot episode when the series goes into production next year.
