Two Possible ‘Star Trek’ Show Names Trademarked

Star Trek USS Enterprise
It’s been well-known that CBS are planning to revitalize Star Trek on television – or rather, through their CBS All Access service – after the success of Discovery, and with a new series starring an older Jean-Luc Picard ordered and other shows rumored to be in development, the possibilities are endless. And from the sound of things, we may find out what future shows in the franchise may be called.

TrekNews has uncovered trademark filings for two new titles, which are Star Trek: Reliant and Star Trek: Destiny. Both subtitles seem to refer to the vessels and crew that operate the ships (much like Deep Space 9VoyagerEnterprise, and Discovery have all done) as opposed to concepts. TrekNews speculates that Reliant is named after the vessel that Khan Noonien Singh, the eponymous villain of The Wrath of Khan, hijacked; indeed, a Khan-centric show overseen by that movie’s director, Nicholas Meyer, has been among the projects that appear to be moving forward.

However, the writers at TrekNews are not quite sure what to make of Destiny beyond mentioning that the subtitle was used for a trilogy of novels that they don’t believe will be adapted; also worth noting is that the USS Destiny is a vessel by that name exists in the Deep Space 9 era, which may or may not indicate when the show will take place. Presuming that this trademark is tied to one of the existing television projects in development, it could refer to an animated series, a show focused on Starfleet as a whole, or the Picard-focused project mentioned earlier.

Star Trek Discovery Season 1 is available to stream on CBS All Access and on Netflix internationally. Season 2 of the show will debut in January 2019. A show about Jean-Luc Picard after his service as the captain of the Enterprise is also in development, with Patrick Stewart set to reprise his role.
