Nick Fury and Maria Hill Will Appear in the Next ‘Spider-Man’ Movie

Spider-Man: Far From Home
It sounds like the rumors are true… Sources near the production of Spider-Man: Far From Home indicate that Nick Fury and Maria Hill are both set to appear, which likely means that S.H.I.E.L.D. is getting back into the swing of things after the events of Avengers 4.

Vulture has revealed that their sources have told them about the presence of two characters who have been largely absent from the Marvel Cinematic Universe since 2015’s Avengers: Age of Ultron, who made surprise cameos at the end of Avengers: Infinity War (spoilers for that movie ahead on the off-chance that you haven’t watched it by now):

“Now, Vulture can confirm that [Samuel L.] Jackson will also star in Spider-Man: Far From Home, which means Fury will share scenes with Tom Holland’s web-slinger for the first time. That sequel to Spider-Man: Homecoming comes out July 5, 2019, roughly two months after the still-untitled fourth Avengers film will presumably de-dust both Nick Fury and Peter Parker. What’s more, we can confirm that Cobie Smulders will be joining Jackson in [Far From Home], where she’ll reprise her character Maria Hill, Fury’s frequent comrade-in-arms.”

Prior to the release of Spider-Man: Homecoming, it was suggested that each movie in the character’s trilogy would feature specific sets of Marvel Studios characters as important elements of the plot to help distinguish the franchise’s second reboot from the previous five films, in which Spider-Man was the world’s only superhero. In Homecoming, it was Tony Stark/Iron Man, along with Happy Hogan and Pepper Potts (neither of whom had appeared since Iron Man 3). For Far From Home, it’s sounding like S.H.I.E.L.D. characters are going to fill that role instead. In any case, between appearing in Captain MarvelAvengers 4, and Spider-Man: Far From Home, 2019 will easily be Nick Fury’s biggest year as an MCU character.

Spider-Man: Far From Home will be released on July 5, 2019.
