‘Fargo’ Season 4 Production Won’t Start Until Fall 2019

It’s been a long time since we last saw Fargo on our screens, and now it seems that wait is only going to get longer.

Warren Littlfield, Executive Producer on Fargo, has revealed that production on Season 4 will not begin until Fall 2019 in an interview with Deadline. It’s nearly been a year since the Emmy Award-winning series was last seen on our screens, and this new revelation means that we won’t be seeing a new season for at least another year and a half.

The reason for this delay appears to revolve around Creator and Director Noah Hawley’s incredibly busy schedule. The second season of Legion kicked off in April and this summer, Hawley is directing his new film Pale Blue Dot starring Natalie Portman and Jon Hamm. Those projects meant Fargo had to be put on the backburner, and that’s before you consider his discussions with FOX to write and direct a Doctor Doom film.

‘Noah Hawley is directing a film this summer and then he’ll write the opening hour of Fargo, and then at the top of the year, the writers’ room will go to work,’ Littlefield explained. ‘Hopefully we’ll get most of the season written, and then in fall we go into pre-production.’

All of this corroborates with Noah Hawley’s comments back in March, when he said that getting a Season 4 any time in 2018 would be ‘a long shot’. Warren Littlefield did give us little more information as to what exactly has progressed in relation to the new season. ‘We have a year, a city, and a location,’ he revealed.

The casting announcements will probably be the next update we get on Fargo, and that will likely be the end of 2018 at the earliest. The FX show has a history of casting well-known actors in the main roles, with Martin Freeman and Billy Bob Thornton in Season 1. Season 2 saw Patrick Wilson, Kirsten Dunst and Ted Danson in lead roles, while Season 3 cast Carrie Coon, Ewan McGregor and Mary Elizabeth Winstead among others.
