David O. Russell Adds So Many Actors to His New Movie

David O. Russell

David O. Russell is putting together a crew that is set to rival that of Adam Mckay’s Don’t Look Up.

Deadline is reporting that Robert De Niro, Mike Myers, Timothy Olyphant, Michael Shannon, Chris Rock, Anya Taylor-Joy, Andrea Riseborough, Matthias Schoenaerts, and Alessandro Nivola are joining Christian Bale, Margot Robbie, Zoe Saldana, Rami Malek, and John David Washington in the project.

For those of you keeping score, that makes three Academy Award-winners, two two-time Academy Award-nominees, one two-time Emmy Winner, and a four-time Emmy Winner (although Chris Rock’s Emmy wins were not for acting, but rather for a variety program). If I may add, we also have a future Emmy nominee in Anya Taylor-Joy, as well as maybe a future Academy Award nominee in John David Washington, although that will not be an easy one to get this year. Oh, and of course, the movie will be written and directed by a guy with “only” five Oscar nominations.

The idea for the movie is an original one from the writer/director, and no plot details have been revealed as of today. The movie is currently filming in California, with New Regency financing the project.

No release date has been set, but with this type of talent behind and in front of the camera, I would guess we are looking at a short run before the end of the year, with plans to expand across the U.S. in early 2022, just in time for the next awards season.

This will be the first movie that David O. Russell makes since 2015’s Joy. That movie managed to score several Oscar nominations despite a poor critical reception, so imagine what we could be looking at now. He is putting the gang back together with De Niro and Bale, actors he has worked with multiple times in the past.

I, for one, am very excited to see this movie. The Fighter, American Hustle, and Silver Linings Playbook are among my favorite movies of the 2010s, so please, bring me more movies from the guy who made them.
