Adam Driver Joins Noah Baumbach’s Next Movie

Adam Driver

Adam Driver will team up with his Marriage Story director once again for White Noise.

Netflix will be behind the movie once again, which is an adaptation of the 1985 novel of the same name, written by Don DeLillo. Greta Gerwig will also star in the project, alongside Driver. Shooting will start in June. Here’s the synopsis for the film, per Production Weekly:

“A brilliant satire of mass culture and the numbing effects of technology, ‘White Noise’ tells the story of Jack Gladrey (Driver), a teacher of Hitler studies at a liberal arts college in Middle America. Jack and his fourth wife, Babette (Gerwig), bound by their love, fear of death, and four ultramodern offsprings, navigate the rocky passages of family life to the background babble of brand-name consumerism. Then a lethal black chemical cloud, unleashed by an industrial accident, floats over their lives, an “airborne toxic event” that is a more urgent and visible version of the white noise engulfing the Gladneys – the radio transmissions, sirens, mircrowaves, and TV murmurings that constitute the music of American magic and dread.”

Baumbach’s last movie, Marriage Story, was my favorite movie of 2019, and I still contend that Adam Driver should have won an Academy Award for that. The scene in which he sings “Being Alive” will stay with me for a long time. Not only was it one of the best scenes of the year because of its context and many layers, but it also gave us such an outstanding performance from Driver that my jaw dropped many times during it.

I truly believe Driver is one of the best actors working today, period, and Noah Baumbach is one of the top screenwriters in the business. I’m very excited to see what they come up with.

No release date has been given, but I don’t think we can expect the movie for this calendar year.
