‘Furiosa’ Second Trailer Released

Furiosa

As Warner Bros. prepares to launch its second blockbuster of the year in next week’s Godzilla x Kong, they’re already looking ahead at their third one, and it’s one they have high hopes for. Today, they revealed the second trailer for George Miller’s Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga.

The new look at the film has a lot more Chris Hemsworth for us and a detailed look at Anya Taylor-Joy’s Furiosa’s past, which is a lot greener than we expected. There is a lot of hype surrounding the film, helped of course by the critical acclaim of 2015’s Mad Max: Fury Road, where the title character of this one was first introduced (then played by Charlize Theron).

Word has been since the beginning that this is an even better film and that the script is two decades old. Whether Warner Bros. can replicate the critical success of the last one while adding a few more dollars to its worldwide box office gross remains to be seen. What seems certain, though, is that there will be some more in-house Oscar competition as Denis Villeneuve’s Dune: Part Two will be getting a lot of its FYC push.

Here is the official synopsis for the film:

“As the world fell, young Furiosa is snatched from the Green Place of Many Mothers and falls into the hands of a great Biker Horde led by the Warlord Dementus. Sweeping through the Wasteland, they come across the Citadel presided over by The Immortan Joe. While the two Tyrants war for dominance, Furiosa must survive many trials as she puts together the means to find her way home.”

Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga premieres in theaters on May 24. It’s all but confirmed at this point that it will have its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival earlier that month, given the last film’s debut there and several reports over the past few months. Deadline even said this week that they haven’t heard any indications it will not play in Southern France and the director of the festival said last year he hoped to get first dibs on it.
