‘Eddington’ Starts Filming, Ari Aster’s New Movie Confirms Cast: Pedro Pascal, Emma Stone, Austin Butler, Joaquin Phoenix, and More
A24 confirmed on Tuesday that Ari Aster’s Eddington has begun production, and has also confirmed its main cast. Reports have been swirling for months regarding this movie, and as the indie studio confirmed, most of them were actually true.
Ari Aster is writing and directing a new-western centered around a small New Mexico town and its sheriff with “lofty aspirations”, as The Hollywood Reporter put it. Aster is also producing, along with Lars Knudsen, via their Square Peg banner. Darius Khondji serves as DP.
The cast includes Emma Stone, Joaquin Phoenix, Pedro Pascal, Austin Butler, Luke Grimes, Deirdre O’Connell, Micheal Ward, and Clifton Collins Jr. Character details haven’t been disclosed yet. Stone is coming in hot after her big night at the Oscars on Sunday, and Austin Butler is also earning rave reviews from his turn as the psychotic Feyd-Rautha in Dune: Part Two. Ward may be most recognized for his role in Empire of Light, while Grimes is a familiar face to Yellowstone fans.
Pascal was filming The Last of Us season 2, but he may be moving on to this project now — though his character has a more reduced presence in the story of the second game, he probably didn’t have time to film all of his scenes over this past month and might have to come back at a later point.
No release date has been set for Eddington. The project is seen as a make-or-break for Ari Aster and his relationship with A24, considering their last stint together, Beau Is Afraid, lost them a lot of money. The two had previously worked together in Midsommar.
Miguel Fernández is a Spanish student that has movies as his second passion in life. His favorite movie of all time is The Lord of the Rings, but he is also a huge Star Wars fan. However, fantasy movies are not his only cup of tea, as authors like Scorsese, Fincher, Kubrick or Hitchcock have been an obsession for him since he started to understand the language of filmmaking. He is that guy who will watch a black and white movie, just because it is in black and white.
