‘Jurassic World 4’ Sets July 2025 Release Date, David Leitch In Talks to Direct

Jurassic World

Those reports from a couple of weeks ago about Universal moving fast on a new Jurassic World movie were not kidding. The studio has already set a July 2, 2025, date for the fourth installment of the spin-off franchise, which is described as a relaunching of the IP (despite keeping the name of the last three movies).

No actors are expected to return, but David Koepp, who scripted the original Jurassic Park for Steven Spielberg (who would EP the new film) is apparently back at the keyboard. But the question remained: who will direct the new film? According to Deadline, none other than David Leitch, the filmmaker behind Deadpool 2, Bullet Train, Hobbs & Shaw, and the upcoming The Fall Guy, is in talks with the studio to direct the pic.

Leitch is already in business with the Donna Langley-ran studio, after directing the 2019 Fast & Furious spin-off and the upcoming action comedy starring Ryan Gosling, which is set for a May 3 release. No cast has been attached yet, but with a director on board, a script in a solid place, and a release date set, it’s only a matter of time before they start circulating it through the agencies — and given the talent involved so far, we could get some pretty hot names announced.

The last Jurassic World movie, Dominion, cashed in a billion dollars worldwide, which is of course why Universal, in constant need of another franchise (multiple reports indicate that they are also looking to expand the Fast & Furious title beyond the long-running series of films that may be coming to a close), went ahead almost immediately with another one. Dominion came out in June 2022, and for Koepp’s script to be in such a good place, he must have started writing it before the WGA strike last year, which means that he may have been attached since early 2023. In turn, that means that Universal never put to sleep the idea of doing more Jurassic World movies, despite what they’d said back in the summer of 2022.
