‘Thunderbolts’: Lewis Pullman Reportedly Top Choice To Replace Steven Yeun

Lewis Pullman Could Join Thunderbolts

Only a few weeks after it was confirmed that Steven Yeun would be departing Marvel’s Thunderbolts, the studio is zeroing in on their top choice to replace him. The Hollywood Reporter confirmed last night a scoop by Daniel Richtman and DCULeaks that positioned Lewis Pullman as the studio’s top candidate to play Steven Yeun’s vacant role.

While the studio or the trades haven’t confirmed it yet, it’s long been rumored (and semi-confirmed by Robert Kirkman) that Yeun was to play Sentry in the upcoming ensemble movie. The pic, which hails from director Jake Schreier and writer Lee Sung Jin, is described as a baddies team-up, fronted by Julia Louis-Dreyfus’ Val, along with Florence Pugh’s Yelena, Sebastian Stan’s Winter Soldier/Bucky, David Harbour as the Red Guardian, Wyatt Russell as the US Agent, Olga Kurylenko as Taskmaster, and Hannah John-Kamen as Ghost. (Note that these last two names, which were rumored last year to have been written out, were not mentioned by THR‘s story.)

Pullman is coming off a supporting (yet memorable) role in Apple’s Lessons in Chemistry, and was also a part of 2022’s Top Gun: Maverick. The actor reportedly has an offer but has not signed on yet. Production has not started, and the latest report says it’s supposed to go up in the spring. Thunderbolts is currently targeting a July 25, 2025, release date.

It’s one of several projects Marvel hopes to get in front of the cameras sooner rather than later. They are also supposed to do extensive reshoots for Captain America: Brave New World and they hope to finish the script for Blade one of these days. Fantastic Four should also start filming this year. Meanwhile, Deadpool 3 wrapped filming recently – it will be the only Marvel Studios release this year, on July 26.
