Ryan Coogler and Michael B. Jordan Shopping New Mystery Project

Ryan Coogler and Michael B. Jordan are looking to expand their partnership with a brand-new mystery project. Coogler has written the script and will serve as the lead producer via his Proximity Media banner, with Jordan playing the lead, The Hollywood Reporter learned.

Buyers were forced to take a trip to the WME agency two weeks ago to read the script, which gives you an idea of the level of secrecy it’s operating under. Despite that, two sources told THR that it’s a genre project with some period element to it; TheInSneider.com later added that it’s about vampires.

Zinzi Coogler and Sev Ohanian will also produce. Interested parties coming out of the first round of meetings went into a second round last week, in which Coogler explained his take on the material. A production commitment was asked, according to THR.

Jordan and Coogler’s relationship spans over a decade now, after the two worked together on Coogler’s breakout feature Fruitvale Station. They later developed the first Creed, which led to two sequels executive-produced by Coogler — the last of which, Jordan directed. A fourth installment is currently in the works, with Jordan back to direct; plans to expand the property into different mediums are in place.

After Creed, Ryan Coogler directed both Black Panther movies, which brought him worldwide recognition. Jordan played the main villain in the first one and had a cameo in the second one. The two have been attached to an adaptation of the New Yorker story Wrong Answer even before the first Black Panther came out; Ta-Nehisi Coates was to write the script, but nothing has come of that in years.
