‘Jurassic World’ Back on Universal’s Table as David Koepp Pens Script for All-New Film

Jurassic World

Universal Pictures has been quietly moving forward with a brand-new installment of the Jurassic World saga. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the screenwriter for the original Jurassic Park, David Koepp, is coming back to pen the new film, which is internally described as a relaunch.

No directors or actors are attached, but since this is a new story, it’s not expected to feature any returning actors from previous stories —  including Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, Sam Neill, Laura Dern, and Jeff Goldblum. Plot details are kept tightly under wraps, but THR says it will be “launching an all-new Jurassic era.” The studio has managed to keep it all under lock and key for months, and the script is apparently in good enough shape that if they can get this ball rolling just as fast from now on, there are internal whispers of a possible 2025 release.

Frank Marshall is set to return to produce, along with Patrick Crowley. Steven Spielberg would EP via Amblin. Being how hot the package seems to be, we could learn more about this very soon. Speculating here, this could have leaked because the script, or at least the pitch, has now made its way into the agencies, which could hint at casting going on sooner rather than later.

Though 2022’s Jurassic World: Dominion set a definitive end for the storyline, and it was looking like Universal would let it run extinct for a few years, it seems like they couldn’t resist looking at the numbers as they look for more franchises. All six movies in the Jurassic franchise have a combined gross over $6 billion. But how much of the last trilogy’s worth was due to the wave of nostalgia fueling movie theaters worldwide, and how much was it because there is actual appetite for more dinosaur movies? Adam Driver’s 65 would like to have a word about that.

But of course, from a financial perspective, there is enough appeal to go back to it, especially as the studio is getting ready to pump the brakes on the Fast & Furious saga. Fortunately for them, they found a great new partnership in 2023 with Chris Nolan, who has every reason to return to Donna Langley’s office by the time he starts pitching his next movie.
