‘Big Little Lies’ Season 3 in the Works, Confirms Reese Witherspoon

Big Little Lies

Reese Witherspoon confirmed during the red carpet for the Golden Globes that she and Nicole Kidman are currently working on the third season of HBO’s Big Little Lies.

She told Variety, “We’re working on it. Nic and I have been working on it a lot.” Kidman herself said during a Q&A at the CME Group Tour Championship back in November: “We will be bringing you a third one, just FYI.”

David E. Kelly created and wrote the series, which based its first season on the 2014 novel by Liane Moriarty. Between its two seasons, the series won eight Emmy Awards, including Outstanding Limited Series for its first season. Season 2, which was not originally planned, brought in Meryl Streep as Celeste’s (Nicole Kidman) mother-in-law. Jean-Marc Vallée, who directed all seven episodes of season 1, passed away in 2021. Andrea Arnold directed all of season 2.

The cast of Big Little Lies included Witherspoon, Kidman, Shailene Woodley, Laura Dern, Zoë Kravitz, Adam Scott, and Alexander Skarsgård. Most of them would be expected to return, but they are currently all so busy it’s impossible to figure out when they would all be available — the same headache that the network is facing, obviously.
