‘Mad Max: Fury Road’ Prequel ‘Furiosa’ Reportedly Set to Debut at Cannes 2024

The Mad Max: Fury Road prequel Furiosa has been off the radar ever since it was announced, approximately five million years ago (likely because it was shot in Australia, outside of the main Hollywood radars). But production wrapped a year ago, giving director George Miller plenty of time to curate his highly-anticipated two-hour adrenaline shot.

The film, is set to release in theaters on May 24, 2024, nine years after Fury Road, and much like its predecessor, it may be planning a trip to the South of France. According to World of Reel, who cites credible sources that have scooped him Cannes debuts in the past, the film is planning to have its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival next May. The festival is scheduled to take place May 14-25, 2024.

Miller’s Fury Road lit the audience on fire back in 2015, and the upcoming prequel will likely attempt to do the same. It all comes down to confidence in the film on the studio’s behalf, which Warner Bros. likely has. Fury Road, despite an alright box office performance, was the rare blockbuster film that managed to get outstanding responses from critics and audiences alike, and it eventually went on to win multiple Oscars and even get nominated for Best Picture. Last year, Top Gun: Maverick was able to replicate a similar story.

Furiosa stars Anya Taylor-Joy in the role that was previously played by Charlize Theron in Mad Max: Fury Road; she is joined by Chris Hemsworth, and Tom Burke, among others. George Miller is directing and co-writing, as well as producing with his long-time producing partner Doug Mitchell.
