‘Loki’, ‘Echo’, ‘Only Murders in the Building’ Release Dates Revealed; All ‘Indiana Jones’ Films Will Head to Disney+

Disney has revealed the release dates for season 2 of Loki and the debut season of Echo, along with an interesting marketing tactic for the latter, as well as Only Murders in the Building and Pixar’s first original series. They also announced that the Indiana Jones films will finally be heading to Disney+

Marvel announced on social media that Loki‘s second season will be released on October 6, 2023 — the same day as Sony Pictures’ Kraven The Hunter — while the entirety of the Echo series will drop on November 29, 2023.

While the fall release date for Loki is not too surprising — the season was initially earmarked for summer 2023 but was always likely to be pushed back once Secret Invasion was announced for June 21 — the release schedule for Echo marks a startling change in the Disney+ marketing strategy.

Disney+ has always skewed more towards an “event TV” release schedule for its original shows, in stark contrast to the streaming tradition started by Netflix where every episode of a new season is dropped all at once for audiences to binge at their leisure. Releasing every episode of Echo on the same day is a shock, a decision that will no doubt leave many speculating as to the motive of Disney’s pivot in strategy.

Is Disney just trying something new to boost Disney+ subscriptions? Is their release schedule too packed to release one episode a week? Or is it a sign of something more worrying — a lack of confidence in the series that makes them believe it will be better processed all in one go, or that they just want to sweep it under the rug?

Considering fan favorite characters Daredevil and Kingpin will be returning in the series, it seems unlikely that they wouldn’t just delay it and reshoot before releasing if there were any concerns over quality given the recent shifts in release dates for other Phase 5 projects, but it will certainly fuel the Internet speculation machine.

In other non-Marvel news, Only Murders in the Building was confirmed to arrive on Hulu (and presumably Disney+ worldwide) on August 8, 2023, while Pixar’s debut original series Win or Lose will release sometime in December.

Finally, Lucasfilm announced that all four Indiana Jones films will finally arrive on Disney+ before Indiana Jones and The Dial of Destiny hits theatres. Everyone will be able to watch Indy on the streaming service on May 31, just under a month before it slides into theatres.

Until now, the rights to the Indiana Jones films had been held by Paramount, with Disney unable to wrestle them away. The franchise has been living on Paramount Plus for the last few years, but will be joining Star Wars on the House of Mouse’s streaming service after a long wait.

Disney+ subscribers should be eating well in 2023.
