‘Ballerina’ and ‘Napoleon’ Set Release Dates for June 2024 and November 2023 Respectively

Ballerina and Napoleon set release dates

Two highly anticipated movies have received release dates in the past couple of days. They are the Ana de Armas-led John Wick spin-off Ballerina, and the upcoming historical epic Napoleon, starring Joaquin Phoenix.

First things first, Napoleon, which director Ridley Scott helmed, has set a theatrical release date for Wednesday, November 22, before debuting on Apple TV Plus. Apple co-produced the film with Scott Free Productions. They have also revealed the first official picture from the film, which you can check out below. It will be one half of Apple’s major awards contender (that we know of so far), along with Martin Scorsese’s Killers of the Flower Moon, which bows in October.

Here is the official synopsis, courtesy of Apple:

“Directed by Scott from a screenplay by David Scarpa, ‘Napoleon’ stars Joaquin Phoenix as the French emperor and military leader. The film is an original and personal look at Napoleon’s origins and his swift, ruthless climb to emperor, viewed through the prism of his addictive and often volatile relationship with his wife and one true love, Josephine, played by Vanessa Kirby. The film captures Napoleon’s famous battles, relentless ambition and astounding strategic mind as an extraordinary military leader and war visionary.”

Meanwhile, high on the success of John Wick: Chapter 4, Lionsgate has announced the first feature spin-off from the Keanu Reeves-led franchise, Ballerina, will be released in theaters on June 7, 2024. The film, by director Len Wiseman, was written by Shay Hatten. Lionsgate has also confirmed reports that Ian McShane, the late Lance Reddick, and Keanu Reeves himself will be appearing in the film. Besides them and Ana de Armas, the cast also includes Anjelica Huston, Gabriel Byrne, Catalina Sandino Moreno, and Norman Reedus.

Plot specifics remain under wraps. The John Wick franchise is very hot at the moment, with Chapter 4 having already crossed the $245M mark at the worldwide box office and counting. April, besides direct competition from Ben Affleck’s Air, seems to be clear for them to make a lot of money. Its stellar $70M+ opening practically left Lionsgate with no choice but to consider making a fifth film sooner rather than later, despite the creatives’ insistence that this was it for now, before the film was even released.
