Marvel Studios has revealed the brand-new trailer for the new series Secret Invasion, starring Samuel L. Jackson and Ben Mendelsohn. It arrives on June 21.

As revealed by Vanity Fair, Secret Invasion will focus on a Skrull takeover of high-ranking political positions all over the world, coordinated by Kingsley Ben-Adir’s Gravik. Nick Fury, warned by Maria Hill, comes back to Earth to deal with the situation, counting on Ben Mendelsohn’s Talos on one side and allies like Hill, Agent Ross, or Rhodey on the other. A teaser poster was also revealed on Sunday afternoon, focused on Jackson’s Nick Fury:

This is the second trailer for the series, after Feige introduced the first footage ever back in September during D23. The project has been receiving extra time in post-production, as the studio initially intended for it to be released earlier.

The cast includes Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury, Ben Mendelsohn as Talos, Cobie Smulders as Maria Hill, Emilia Clarke as G’iah (Talos’ daughter, whom we met in Captain Marvel), Kingsley Ben-Adir as Gravik, Olivia Colman as a high-ranking MI6 agent, Don Cheadle as Rhodey, Martin Freeman as Agent Ross, Christopher McDonald, and Killian Scott, both of the latter in undisclosed roles. Kyle Bradstreet is the head writer, with Ali Selim directing the series.

The events of the series are a continuation of what happened in 2019’s Captain Marvel, and will lead directly into Armor Wars, a feature film focused around Don Cheadle’s Rhodey that was once set up as a Disney Plus series. The project could film as soon as this year to potentially be released in theaters in 2025. All of this is yet to be confirmed, but the schedules seem to line up, considering Marvel is going to announce a whole lot of delays any day now, including that of Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, which will definitely not make it to its May 2, 2025, release. The studio is at a crossroads now on many departments, and one of its biggest problems is what to do with Jonathan Majors, following assault charges being presented against him and additional damaging accusations from people who knew him before his MCU days. No decision has been made yet, but the studio is considering its options, as Jeff Sneider said during the most recent episode of The Hot Mic podcast.

Secret Invasion will be the first series from Marvel Studios to come out this year on Disney Plus. Also confirmed to be coming out this summer is the second season of Loki, which according to Owen Wilson, could arrive during the end of the summer or September at the latest. At one point, both Echo and Ironheart were announced to be coming out this year as well, but now it’s highly doubtful they both will air in 2023. Alaqua Cox hinted earlier this year that October could be when we see Echo, which is the more likely candidate at this point to be released this year; Ironheart could air at the beginning of 2024.

On the animation side, a second season of What If…? and the first season of X-Men ’97 are supposed to be coming out, but specifics on their dates remain unclear. Rumor has it that we could see another duo of Special Presentations by the end of the year, one focused on Mephisto, as an appetizer for the nine-episode Agatha: Coven of Chaos series, and another one focused on The Sentry which would be filmed on the set of Thunderbolts. (Steven Yeun is playing the character, according to reports.)

Secret Invasion will debut on June 21 on Disney Plus.
