New Safdie Brothers Film at Netflix With Adam Sandler Eyeing Megan Thee Stallion To Star

Megan Thee Stallion circling new movie from the Safdie Brothers and Adam Sandler

The Safdie Brothers, Josh and Benny, are prepping a new movie with Adam Sandler following their 2020 hit Uncut Gems. Netflix, which financed and distributed that movie, is back on board.

That much was reported back in October, but the project seems to be moving full steam ahead, as Deadline is reporting that pop culture icon Megan Thee Stallion is now in negotiations to star in what would be her first feature film. Plot and character details are being kept under wraps, but word out there is that the movie would be centered around the world of sports memorabilia.

The singer has already had screen debuts in Starz’s P-Valley and NBC’s Good Girls, as well as a cameo in last year’s She-Hulk: Attorney At Law on Disney Plus. She would join other A-list singers transitioning into film and TV, like Bad Bunny, who had a minor role in Bullet Train and is set to star in his own Sony/Marvel package El Muerto (though that film has been stalled in development for a few months).

There is a lot more to say about this movie, though, as Variety reported earlier this week that Sebastian Bear-McClard, a producer on the Safdie Brothers film Good Time is now facing sexual misconduct allegations after he brought a 17-year-old to the set of the film after courting her on Instagram, possibly promising her to meet Robert Pattinson, and then gave her a nude scene that was filmed in front of 12 men and co-starring an actor who’d just been released from prison. As she told Variety, she “was utterly stunned and felt terrified. My distress only worsened when out of nowhere, [an actor] whispered in my ear if ‘he could stick it in’ while the cameras rolled. I said ‘no.’”

During the most recent episode of The Hot Mic podcast, industry reporter Jeff Sneider also posted a rumor about a major Hollywood actor being in talks for the project. A source told him said actor was Ben Affleck, while a different source told him that was not the name they’d heard, hinting that either another actor was in talks for that role, or two other big names could be joining the project. Timothée Chalamet’s name was thrown into the conversation as well, but if he were also circling the project, it’s probably not for the same role as Affleck.

Interestingly enough, when asked by Sneider whether Netflix was still financing the movie, a rep for the streamer did not respond. Production is set to begin in a few months, so we assume it’s in a good place, but some of these negotiations, including Megan Thee Stallion’s and Affleck’s, could fall apart due to a money issue, as Netflix is cutting costs left and right to try to stay afloat.

Sandler has another movie under his Netflix deal coming out, the sequel to the 2019 hit for the platform Murder Mystery. Affleck is also quite hot in Hollywood at the moment, as his latest directorial feat, Air, which has been getting rave reviews, hits theaters on April 5.
