UPDATE: ‘Deadpool 3’ Adds ‘Succession’ Star Matthew Macfadyen, Karan Soni And Leslie Uggams Returning

Deadpool 3

The cast for the upcoming Deadpool 3 just received a major boost, as Deadline is reporting that Succession actor and Emmy winner Matthew Macfadyen is joining the call list.

Macfadyen’s role remains under wraps, but after his jump to fame with a vastly-layered role in the hit HBO drama, where he walks a fine line between being awkwardly funny, borderline pathetic, and extremely vulnerable and sympathetic, it seems unlikely he will be a side character or even have a small presence in the movie. We probably shouldn’t expect a character as deep as Tom in Deadpool 3, but maybe they will actually surprise us by writing a part that Macfadyen just couldn’t resist.

So far, the cast of the threequel — which will also be the first R-rated film in the MCU — includes Ryan Reynolds returning as the titular Merc With A Mouth, Hugh Jackman as Logan/Wolverine, and Emma Corrin in an undisclosed role that seems to be villainous. Zazie Beetz has long been rumored to be returning as Domino, and word out there has the TVA chasing down Deadpool, likely in the aftermath of the events of the Deadpool 2 post-credits scene. Owen Wilson is also rumored to be on the call sheet, though Marvel has yet to confirm it.

With Succession coming to an end with the current fourth season, it’s likely that we will be hearing more of these big castings moving forward. Brian Cox is obviously an established name by now, but Jeremy Strong’s profile has definitely increased thanks to the Jesse Armstrong-created series, which has also put on the map names like Sarah Snook, whose upcoming horror movie Run Rabbit Run was acquired by Netflix earlier this year, Alan Ruck, who is making a comeback almost 40 years after the release of Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, and Kieran Culkin, whose brother was (literally) the face of the Home Alone franchise in the 90s.

Deadpool 3 is scheduled to commence principal photography at the beginning of May, targeting a November 8, 2024, release date. Shawn Levy is directing a script from Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese.

UPDATE: On Wednesday, Deadline reported that fan-favorite actors from the first two films, Karan Soni (Dopinder) and Leslie Uggams (Blind Al), are also on the roll call for the threequel. Whether they will be featured in cameos or have large roles, we don’t know yet.
