‘Only Murders in the Building’ Season 3 Adds Meryl Streep, Now Filming

Only Murders in the Building recruits Meryl Streep

Hulu’s Only Murders in the Building is plotting a third delicious murder mystery for us, and things just got even more delightful. In a new announcement, the main trio (Selena Gómez, Martin Short, and Steve Martin) have confirmed that Paul Rudd is indeed a part of the new cast… plus Meryl Streep is joining the party!

Check out the new announcement here, straight from the show’s Twitter account:

Paul Rudd’s involvement in the third season was announced right after season 2 ended its run on Hulu (the finale already featured him in a cameo), but Meryl Streep comes as an absolute shocker. The multiple Oscar winner is no stranger to television either, after playing a pivotal role in the second season of Big Little Lies, and Hulu’s flagship comedy of the moment is definitely up her wheelhouse of having a delightful time on set.

The season 2 finale featured an epilogue that took place a year after the main events of the season. It introduced us to Paul Rudd as Charles’ co-star in their theater play, and after a heated argument where Charles tells Paul Rudd’s character to “stay away from her”, the latter dies on stage, setting off the plot of the third season. Current speculation points to Meryl Streep being her.

Season 3 is also stepping up the game in terms of guest stars — season 1 had Sting, and season 2 featured Cara Delevingne and Amy Schumer, but having Meryl Streep, arguably the best actress of all time, on set for the third installment, is definitely going to turn a few heads.

The green light for the third season was announced halfway through last season, and it looks like filming is already underway, which means we could potentially have new episodes featuring our friends from the Arconia before the end of the year. Stay tuned for more!

Only Murders in the Building was co-created by Steve Martin and John Hoffman; executive producers include Martin, Short, Gómez, Hoffman, Jess Rosenthal, and Dan Fogelman.
