Emma Stone and Christopher Abbott Board Ari Aster’s Next Film
Ari Aster is on a roll. After delivering two highly discussed films in Hereditary (2018) and Midsommar (2019), he’s not only getting ready for the release of Beau Is Afraid, but also about to start filming a new project with Emma Stone and Christopher Abbott.
The news comes from the latest issue of Production Weekly (via The Film Stage), which lists Aster’s next feature film (currently untitled) as going into production soon. Stone and Abbott’s names were added to the project as leads. To add more fuel to the fire, an Emma Stone fan account published earlier this year pictures of her, Abbott, and Aster at a New Year’s Eve bash hosted by Robert Pattinson.
Stone is keeping herself busy lately working on low-profile movies from critically acclaimed directors. She plays the lead in Yorgos Lanthimos’ upcoming Poor Things, a re-imagining of Frankenstein’s classic tale where Belle Baxter (Stone) drowns herself to escape from his abusive husband, and is then brought back to life with the brain of the fetus she was carrying. This will be her second collaboration with Lanthimos after scoring an Oscar nomination for 2018’s The Favourite, though not her last — she is also in a third movie from him called AND, which is already in post-production. Poor Things will definitely hit theaters later this year, but it’s unknown if Searchlight Pictures will opt for a double-feature from Lanthimos and release AND too. Stone is also reportedly coming back for a Cruella sequel that could be filming this year.
Abbott had a scene-stealing role in the HBO series Girls years ago, and has since been acting in smaller roles and films — he had a part in Damien Chazelle’s First Man and also appeared in It Comes at Night, among others. He’s playing The Foreigner in the upcoming Sony/Marvel pic Kraven the Hunter, hitting theaters later this year, and also worked with Emma Stone in Lanthimos’ Poor Things.
Ari Aster’s next film will be Beau Is Afraid, starring Joaquin Phoenix. It released a new trailer just this month:
Miguel Fernández is a Spanish student that has movies as his second passion in life. His favorite movie of all time is The Lord of the Rings, but he is also a huge Star Wars fan. However, fantasy movies are not his only cup of tea, as authors like Scorsese, Fincher, Kubrick or Hitchcock have been an obsession for him since he started to understand the language of filmmaking. He is that guy who will watch a black and white movie, just because it is in black and white.
