‘Dune: Part Two’ Adds Tim Blake Nelson in Unknown Role

Dune: Part Two recruits Tim Blake Nelson

Dune: Part Two may be in post-production after wrapping last December, but the cast keeps getting larger.

The Hollywood Reporter has learned that Coen brothers’ regular and Watchmen star Tim Blake Nelson joined the cast in mystery last year. The role is unknown for now, and likely not as large as other new additions — Florence Pugh is set to play Princess Irulan, Austin Butler will play Feyd-Rautha, Léa Seydoux will be Lady Margot, and Christopher Walken was cast as the Emperor of the Known Universe. As a sidenote, Tim Blake Nelson is in the midst of promoting his new novel, City of Blows, out this February.

Dune: Part Two will be the sequel to the 2021 critical hit, which went on to earn ten Oscar nominations and walk away with six statuettes. It will adapt the second half of Frank Herbert’s 1965 sci-fi novel, following Paul Atreides after he joins the Fremen and starts leading them against the Imperial forces and the Harkonnens, who have now taken over Arrakis. Here is the official synopsis released by the studio:

“This follow-up film will explore the mythic journey of Paul Atreides as he unites with Chani and the Fremen while on a warpath of revenge against the conspirators who destroyed his family. Facing a choice between the love of his life and the fate of the known universe, he endeavors to prevent a terrible future only he can foresee.”

The returning cast from the first movie includes Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, Rebecca Ferguson, Javier Bardem, Josh Brolin, Stellan Skarsgård, Dave Bautista, Charlotte Rampling, and Stephen McKinley Henderson. Denis Villeneuve is also back as director and co-writer, along with Jon Spaihts. Denis Villeneuve, Mary Parent, Cale Boyter, Tanya Lapointe, and Patrick McCormick are producers. The executive producers are Josh Grode, Herbert W. Gains, Brian Herbert, Byron Merritt, Kim Herbert, Thomas Tull, Jon Spaihts, Richard P. Rubinstein, and John Harrison, with Kevin J. Anderson serving as creative consultant.

Dune: Part Two will bow in theaters on November 3, 2023.
