‘The Flash’: Warner Brothers to Release First Trailer at Super Bowl LVII

The Flash

Warner Brothers is making a big play for The Flash, opting to release the first full trailer for the film at Super Bowl LVII. The big game will take place on February 12, 2023, which will also allow the trailer to play in front of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania the following week.

While there was a blitz of major trailers that dropped ahead of the release of Avatar: The Way of Water, several fans lamented the absence of The Flash, a film set to commemorate ten years of the DC Extended Universe franchise (at least until it’s rebooted under the leadership of James Gunn and Peter Safran, although the film is described as setting the stage for a reboot with its multiverse-crossing, time-travelling adventure), with Warner Brothers opting instead to promote the likes of Creed III and Barbie. However, The Wrap has revealed that they chose to wait to drop the first full trailer for The Flash with the Super Bowl.

This move marks the first time since 2006 that Warner Brothers has marketed one of their films during the Super Bowl, with the likes of 16 BlocksV for Vendetta, and Poseidon all getting ads. However, the studio flirted with the idea of a return last year by dropping a short four-film preview in the pre-game presentation for their then-planned slate of 2022 DC movies; only half of them – The Batman and Black Adam – ended up releasing in 2022, with the other two – The Flash and Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom – moving to 2023, where they will debut alongside Shazam! Fury of the Gods and Blue Beetle.

All indications thus far are that WB is immensely confident in this film despite some of lead actor Ezra Miller’s various controversies throughout 2022. The film will also see the return of both Michael Keaton and Ben Affleck’s versions of Batman, alongside Sasha Calle as Supergirl.
