‘The Witcher: Blood Origin’ Summons Teaser Trailer Ahead of Christmas Release
With the December 25 release date looming on the horizon, Netflix has finally dropped a better look at the Witcher prequel series Blood Origin.
We already saw a tease in December 2021 as the post-credits scene of season 2 of The Witcher, but this is our first proper look at the four-part miniseries. It was originally planned to be six episodes long but was cut shorter earlier this year with extensive reshoots. Oddly enough, Netflix is calling this a “teaser trailer” even though we’re a little over a month away from release, so maybe a main/final trailer is coming even closer to Christmas. The official synopsis reads as follows:
Set in an elven world 1200 years before the time of Geralt, Yennefer, and Ciri, The Witcher: Blood Origin will tell a tale lost to history: the creation of the first prototype Witcher, and the events that led to the pivotal Conjunction of the Spheres, when the worlds of monsters, men, and elves merged to become one.
The cast is led by Michelle Yeoh, whose mainstream resurgence culminated this year with the surprise hit Everything Everywhere All at Once, Sophia Brown, Jacob Collins-Levy, and Laurence O’Fuarain. The series was created by The Witcher veteran Declan De Barra, with Vicky Jewson (Close) and Sarah O’Gorman (The Witcher) splitting the directing duties.

Blood Origin will be Netflix’s main offering for fans of Andrzej Sapkowski’s fantasy universe in 2022, as season 3 of the main show won’t arrive until summer 2023. For those unaware, the third season will be the final chapter for Henry Cavill’s take on Geralt de Rivia. Whether it’s because of his new Superman commitments or because he’s been vocal in the past about his desire for a closer adaptation of the books (something the creative team hasn’t really honored), Cavill won’t remain in the series past 2023. After he’s gone, Liam Hemsworth will pick up his swords for seasons 4 and 5 of the hit series — and those are planned to be shot back-to-back.
