‘Wonder Man’: Ben Kingsley Coming Back as Trevor Slattery in Marvel Studios’ Disney Plus Series

Wonder Man bringing back Ben Kingsley

In an unexpected move, Variety is reporting that Academy Award winner Ben Kingsley will be reprising his Shang-Chi role of Trevor Slattery in the upcoming Wonder Man series for Disney Plus.

In retrospect, the move makes complete sense, as Shang-Chi director Destin Daniel Cretton is executive producing the series under his overall deal with Marvel, and potentially directing some episodes. Moreover, the series is rumored to be a Hollywood satire, a very appropriate pitch given the comic roots of the character — Wonder Man, a.k.a. Simon Williams, is an actor and a stunt performer. Kingsley will reportedly play a major role, though plot details are being kept under wraps.

Kingsley first played the role in 2013’s Iron Man 3, and after filming the Marvel one-shot All Hail the King, which served as an unintended prelude to Shang-Chi, he returned to the screen in the 2021 critically acclaimed movie. Casting for Wonder Man is rumored to be happening at the moment, with production possibly eyeing a 2023 start. It will probably be part of the Phase 6 lineup, which could be fully unveiled at the upcoming D23 Expo. Marvel will co-host a panel with Lucasfilm and 20th Century Studios on Saturday, at 10 am.

Andrew Guest is the head writer of the series. Cretton is being kept busy at Marvel, with at least two shows in development, a Shang-Chi sequel, and the highly anticipated Avengers: The Kang Dynasty — he’s directing the last two.
