‘The Boys’ Cast Reunited to Start Filming Season 4

The Boys

The cast and crew of The Boys are back in Toronto for the filming of the fourth season of the hit Prime Video series.

This was confirmed by several members of the team as they documented their journey to Canada, culminating with a reunion picture between Karl Urban and Jack Quaid, who played Billy Butcher and Hughie, respectively. Back in June, Urban confirmed to Collider that they would begin production on season 4 on August 22, and so far, it looks like that date is sticking. The crew is now back, so it looks like they’ve kept that date.

The pictures already teased the (expected) return of Urban, Quaid, Karen Fukuhara (Kimiko) Anthony Starr (Homelander), and Chace Crawford (the Deep). The announcement of season 4 back on June 10 also teased the return of Erin Moriarty (Annie/Starlight), Jessie T. Usher (A-Train), Laz Alonso (M.M.), Tomer Capone (Frenchie), and Claudia Doumit (Victoria Neuman). Dominique McElligott, who plays Queen Maeve, had a clear exit written down for her in the season 3 finale, though we expect that she’ll be back as the Boys come closer to taking down Homelander. Another possible return is Jensen Ackles as Soldier Boy, who was put on ice in a very Winter Soldier way during the season finale, hinting that he may not be back — however, the actor replied to Urban’s Instagram post, saying “Pour me a double… I’m on my way.”

Season 4 was recently announced to be adding two new members to the cast, Valorie Curry who will portray the superhero Firecracker, and Susan Hayward, who will play Sister Sage. Character details are being kept under wraps, and since neither of them originated from the comics, it’s unknown how they will play into the plot. In addition, Cameron Crovetti, who plays Homelander’s son Ryan, was officially promoted as a series regular for season 4, hinting at more father-son dynamics between Ryan and Homelander, following up on that chilling season 3 finale. The Boys creator Eric Kripke teased Ryan’s involvement in the season 4 plot to Variety and how the character is the feather that will lean the scale one way or the other:

“Ryan is a really important piece of the story because he’s half Becca, half Homelander,” Kripke continued. “If Butcher can figure out how to get his shit together and get the kid back, that could be the single best weapon they have against Homelander. But vice versa. If Homelander wins the kid over, that’s apocalyptic because then there’s two Homelanders. It’s like a child drama with apocalyptic stakes. It’s like ‘Kramer vs. Kramer’ meets ‘Avengers: Endgame.’ So that will be a really rich story moving forward.”

With The Boys season 4 currently in production, we expect the new season to debut on Prime Video before the end of 2023. Amazon’s The Rings of Power is also heading back into production in October, but given the sheer scale of that series, it’s unlikely we’ll see it on our screens before the summer of 2024. For that reason, the Jeff Bezos-owned streaming platform needs high-profile content to keep its customers satisfied.
