‘Dark Phoenix’ Burns in Explosive WonderCon Poster

Dark Phoenix
Last weekend at WonderCon, Fox gave fans an early look at their final X-Men movie, Dark Phoenix. As well as getting a sneak preview of the movie, fans attending the panel also received a fiery poster of Jean Grey.

The poster, captioned “Every hero has a dark side.”, features Jean as she struggles to contain the explosive power of the Phoenix within her. Composed of vivid reds, oranges, and yellows, the comic book style poster is a stark contrast to the darker tone of the film’s previous posters.

Following fans disappointment with The Last Stand‘s adaption of the Dark Phoenix Saga, and a continuity do-over courtesy of Days of Future Past, Fox are hoping that the second time is the charm as long term franchise producer Simon Kinberg makes his directorial debut with the franchise finale. This time to story will focus firmly on Sophie Turner’s Jean Grey as she battles the cosmic power known as the Phoenix Force inside her, a force that makes her not only a danger to her friends, but dangerous to the entire planet as aliens seek to harness her new powers to conquer the galaxy.

Taking to the stage at CinemaCon this week, Fox’s Vice Chairman Emma Watts called Dark Phoenix “the perfect sendoff for our X-Men team,” confirming that the film will bring to a close the universe started almost twenty years ago. After the release of it and The New Mutants (both of which will release theatrically), the X-Men franchise, along with every other franchise that features characters previously owned by Fox, are expected to be rebooted into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Currently, only Ryan Reynolds is expected to reprise his role as Deadpool under the new management, although it’s still not clear if the next film will continue the story started in the universe where Deadpool 2 is set, or if the character will be rebooted into the MCU immediately.

Dark Phoenix hits theaters June 7th.
