‘Stranger Things 3’ Trailer: One Summer Can Change Everything

Stranger Things
The official full trailer for Stranger Things 3 seems to indicate a major shift away from childhood and toward the awkward path that is growing up as the kids from Hawkins, Indiana head away from the neighborhood and to the city in order to enjoy the Summer of 1985. But alas, supernatural trouble seems destined to follow the group…

After the Hawkins National Laboratory was shut down for good and the gate linking a hostile alternate dimension to a quiet town in Middle America beneath it has been sealed, things have returned to a relative normal, and even Jane “Eleven” Ives is finally finding a way to fit in in spite of her psychic powers. Mike and Jane are in a romantic relationship, as are Max and Lucas. The town’s new leader, the corrupt Mayor Kline, has fast-tracked the development of Starcourt Mall, an attraction that should bring more economic development to the town. But normal times don’t seem to last around here, as a lifeguard disappears under mysterious circumstances and Erica, Lucas’s younger sister, discovers a truly strange presence that is manifesting.

The trailer, which hints at a number of these story beats, is set to the appropriate backing track of “Baba O’Riley” by The Who. You can watch it below:

The new season, which is back down to eight episodes instead of the previous season’s nine, is said to be more cinematic in nature, which was part of the reason why the wait between the second and third seasons was longer than usual. Odds are, it should be more than worth it, and fans who can’t get enough will be able to play a new Stranger Things licensed video game on multiple platforms the day that the show arrives.

Stranger Things 3 will stream on Netflix starting July 4, 2019. Stranger Things 1 and Stranger Things 2 can be viewed on the streaming service right now, along with the aftershow Beyond Stranger Things. The show is planned to go on for at least one more season, and possibly two.
