Frank Oz Joins Rian Johnson’s ‘Knives Out’

Knives Out
Frank Oz has become the latest big name to sign on to Rian Johnson’s upcoming murder mystery Knives Out.

IndieWire recently had a chat with Oz, who just revealed his involvement in Knives Out in an interview about his career. Though Oz is mostly known for his puppeteering work in Star Wars and Sesame Street, he has a good history of getting in front of the camera as well, with minor roles in films such as Trading Places, Blues Brothers and Spies Like Us.

Oz won’t be the only star involved in Knives Out, as the film has already cast Daniel Craig, Chris Evans, Lakeith Stanfield, Michael Shannon, Jaimie Lee Curtis and Christopher Plummer among others. Rian Johnson recently worked with the famous puppeteer/director/actor when he asked Frank to come back and play Yoda in Star Wars: The Last Jedi, and it seems the two struck up a good relationship.

Johnson seems particularly enamored by the experience, and rightly so: “We had a magical night when Frank came and puppeteered the Yoda,” he enthused. Meanwhile, Frank Oz was all too happy to join the impressive cast:

“He asked me to act in it and I said, ‘Are you out of your friggin’ mind?’ But he wanted me in there. The reason I do those, and I believe every director should do this, is I need to know how frightening it is in front of a camera. And if I screw up, I can learn how to help when I direct an actor. Every director should get in front of the camera and see how frightening it is and how much the actors need you.”

It’s likely that Oz’s role will be similar to his previous acting roles, considering his skittishness about getting in front of the camera. It could just be he’s the man who gets murdered and is only in the film for a scene or two.

Knives Out will hit theaters on November 27 2019. For more news on the film, stay tuned to Movie News Net.
