‘Captain Marvel’ Clip: Annette Bening is the Supreme Intelligence

Captain Marvel
Last night during a guest appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Annette Bening discussed Captain Marvel after revealing a short clip. The clip the Kree Supreme Intelligence (Bening) meeting the film’s protagonist, Carol Danvers (Brie Larson).

The scene is set early on in the film, when Danvers is led to believe that she’s really a Kree-created superhuman named Vers. As Vers, her emotions are suppressed in order to make her an ideal warrior, free from any sort of restraints or distractions, although it doesn’t appear that Danvers knows this. The Supreme Intelligence certainly seems to be interested in uncovering missing knowledge from Captain Marvel’s memories, especially with whatever encounter with the Skrulls that Danvers experienced in her past life. You can watch the short scene below:

The clip also has some interesting exposition about Skrulls infiltrating the populations of various Kree-controlled worlds, noting that they have a tendency to launch a full-scale invasion only when they’ve impersonated a significant portion of any given planet’s population. That Earth is said to be victim to Skrull infiltration seems to set the stage for a Secret Invasion adaptation of some kind down the road, although it seems like it could be the subject for a third Captain Marvel movie instead of an Avengers movie, akin to what was done with Captain America: Civil War.

Captain Marvel will be released on March 8, 2019.
