New ‘Ghostbusters’ to Start Filming in June

Ghostbusters
Just last month it was revealed that Sony is working on a new Ghostbusters movie. Now, we know that the next generation of popular team will team up with their older counterparts as the film will begin filming this Summer in Calgary.

According to Production Weekly, the unexpected sequel is due to begin principal photography this June with a fifteen week location shoot in Calgary, Alberta.

The new film comes from director Jason Reitman, son of original Ghostbusters director Ivan Reitman. Though Sony did release a stand-alone reboot in 2016, the new movie will return to the continuity of Ghostbusters and Ghostbusters II, taking place decades after the events of the original movies, and will see the return of most of the original movie’s cast. The movie is expected to pay homage to the late Harold Ramis, who passed away a few years ago.

Little is know about the plot, but rumors originating from Birth. Movies. Death., and supported by The Hollywood Reporter‘s Borys Kit, suggest that the film will feature four children/young teens as the lead characters. Further unsubstantiated rumors say that “the film will focus on a family who moves back home to a small town. While there, they begin to learn more about who they are and the secrets of the town itself.” This would certainly seem to fit with the brief teaser Sony released last month, featuring Ecto-1 hidden under a tarp in an old barn.

With filming now scheduled to begin in June, we can expect to hear more about the project and who will play the young leads in the coming months.

Ghostbusters is expected to hit theaters in Summer 2020.
