HBO’s ‘Watchmen’ Finds Composers in Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross

Watchmen
Who composes the Watchmen? Apparently, the guy behind Nine Inch Nails and a frequent collaborator on several movie scores, as they’ve been enlisted to help shape the feeling of the live-action sequel to the comic book.

HBO have revealed that Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross will be bringing their distinctive style of music to Damon Lindelof’s reimagining of the superhero deconstruction. The duo are well-known for their Academy Award-winning score for The Social Network, and have later contributed to other soundtracks for movies such as The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and Gone Girl. They also collaborated on the PBS series The Vietnam War. Their work is known for being atmospheric and moody, something which should compliment the grim, neo-noir themes of a world that’s lost it’s superheroes.

Details on the new series are still scarce, but it appears as though the show is a sequel to the events of the original graphic novel, which was predominantly set in a 1985 closer to our world than the DC Universe (which Watchmen is an alternate reality to). The main story appears to take place not in New York City (a standard location for most superheroes to visit, and where most of the major events in the classic series from Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons end up happening in), but in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The official synopsis for the series is as follows:

“Set in an alternate history where ‘superheroes’ are treated as outlaws, Watchmen embraces the nostalgia of the original groundbreaking graphic novel while attempting to break new ground of its own.”

Watchmen will air on HBO at some point in 2019. The show’s cast includes Regina King, Jeremy Irons, Don Johnson, Tim Blake Nelson, Louis Gossett Jr., Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Adelaide Clemens, Andrew Howard, Tom Mison, Frances Fisher, Jacob Ming-Trent, Sara Vickers, Dylan Schombing, Lily Rose Smith, and Adelynn Spoon.
