Wakanda Plays an Important Role in ‘Avengers 4’; Heroes Will Be Hardened By ‘Infinity War’ Ending

Avengers Infinity War
In a new video about the many, many superheroes of Avengers: Infinity War, directors Joe and Anthony Russo make mention of how Wakanda will be important to the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and explain that heroes like Captain America and Black Widow will be hardened by the experience of watching many of their allies die in Infinity War come Avengers 4.

While focusing on T’Challa, Wakanda’s king and the current Black Panther, the Russo brothers explained that they see the character as having the most potential to impact the MCU’s longform storytelling:

“Black Panther has tremendous potential as a character in the Marvel Universe, and I think Wakanda is essential to whatever may happen post-Avengers: Infinity War… how the world may deal with what is happening to them… The technology that Wakanda has at its disposal is valuable in repairing the world moving forward.”

Though they wouldn’t say anything about Avengers 4 specifically, we already know that Ramonda and Shuri, King T’Challa’s mother and sister respectively, survived the cataclysm that happens at the ending.

However, they did hint at the follow-up to Infinity War in the form of a statement about how the movie’s devastating ending will affect Captain America and Black Widow:

“In [Captain America: The] Winter Soldier, what we found so compelling about pairing her up with Captain America was that he is this paragon of morality, and she is a paragon of gray. But they’ve grown together, and I think when you find them in [Infinity War], they’ve been the Secret Avengers for two years because they’re being hunted by [General] Ross and the government, they’re like a tight-knit family now. Her, Sam Wilson, and Steve Rogers. It’s hardened all of them in a way – you can’t go on the run without it affecting you emotionally. So I think all of those characters, but specifically, those who survived Infinity War – Cap and Natasha – we’ll see them with a much harder edge.”

Since both characters will get a lot more spotlight than they did in Infinity War, it’s good to know that that some of that time will be spent focusing on their growth as characters, especially since the movie will apparently focus on a smaller group of characters for a big portion of its runtime.
