‘Avengers 4’ Trailer May Only Feature Heroes Still Alive

If you were waiting for the Avengers 4 trailer to see how characters that died in Infinity War may somehow return, you’re going to be disappointed.

Marvel Executive Producer Kevin Feige has strongly implied to i09 that any heroes who died as a result of ‘The Snappening’ will not be appearing in any of the film’s promotional material. When asked if a character like Black Panther would show up in trailers for the film, Feige responded: ‘No, because he’s gone.’ That’s sound logic, but it does represent an interesting problem for the film’s marketing department to solve, particularly if you believe that most of the characters who died will be resurrected in the sequel.

On the other hand, you can’t blame Marvel for not wanting to spoil the events of their sequel for people in the marketing material. Feige’s even been contradicting himself about when Spider-Man: Far From Home will take place, stating that it might be taking place before the events of Infinity War in spite of previously noting that it’s the first film set in the post-Avengers 4 Marvel Cinematic Universe; not a total continuity reboot, but a fresh start.

‘Well, when does that movie take place?’ he questioned, when asked about its place in the MCU timeline. ‘We know it’s the summer. I think it’s the summer vacation. I think he’s going to Europe with his friends. I don’t know what summer.’

Feige’s suggestion is probably not true (or that it will be true, but only for the first trailer), but it does show how Marvel are treating spoilers around the fate of its heroes. We already know that nearly every character that appeared in Avengers: Infinity War will be returning based on statements made by the cast and crew prior to the release of Infinity War. It seems we won’t know anything about the fate of those who died until we actually see Avengers 4 in theaters next year, in May 2019.
