‘Birds of Prey’: Rosie Perez Cast as Renee Montoya
Birds of Prey is quickly filling up its cast ahead of filming, which starts early next year. Joining Margot Robbie, Jurnee Smollett-Bell, and Mary Elizabeth Winstead will be Rosie Perez as GCPD cop Renee Montoya.
The Wrap is reporting that Perez and Warner Bros. have closed the deal on the part of Renee Montoya. The character is a veteran police officer working in Gotham City. In the comics, she takes up the identity of the detective superhero The Question after he learns that he’s dying of cancer. It is not known if Montoya will remain an officer throughout the film itself, or if she will assume the identity of The Question.
Still yet to be cast are two major roles: Cassandra Cain, a young Asian girl who has been trained to be an assassin but wants out, and Black Mask, a brutal mobster wearing a skeletal mask made from a gravestone. There are likely other, smaller parts that will be cast closer to the release of the film, but for now, Birds of Prey only has to focus on filling out those roles for what’s shaping up to be a gritty R-rated crime drama.
Birds of Prey will be released on February 7, 2020.
