‘Mid90s’ Trailer Brings the Nostalgia

Jonah Hill is obviously best known for his comedic roles, and it’s arguable that A24 is becoming heavily associated with its particular brand of horror films. So it’s definitely interesting that the two are now linked in a nostalgic drama about kids skating in the ’90s.

Mid90s marks Jonah Hill’s directorial debut, after years of working on acting projects. The film, starring Sunny Juljic, Lucas Hedges, and Katherine Waterson, shows the childhood experience of growing up in the L.A. skating culture of the 1990s.

Just a heads up- the language in this trailer is pretty NSFW.

As a child of the ’90s myself, it’s interesting to see what appears to be not only a coming of age story set then, but to see it treated basically as a period piece. Everything from SNES controllers and Stevie’s Street Fighter II shirt to references to Sheryl Crow reminds me so much of my own childhood (though I was super lame compared to these kids), but it also feels so alien now. Kinda makes me feel really, really old.

Mid90s is coming to theaters October 19th.
