‘Glass’ Gets a Trailer at Comic-Con and More
The casts of M. Night Shyamalan’s original superhero movies Unbreakable and Split collide in Glass. See what we learned about the new movie at the San Diego Comic Con ahead.
M. Night Shyamalan Got Disney And Universal To Work Together
After being greeted with a standing ovation from the crowd, M. Night Shyamalan started things off by thanking Disney and Universal for working together on his original IP (which is divided between Disney with Unbreakable and Split with Universal), something relatively unheard of for two major studios to be involved in such a small-scale project. Universal distributes Glass domestically while Disney will distribute the movie overseas.
Kevin Was Originally Intended To Appear In Unbreakable
Fans who know their stuff about Unbreakable will know that James McAvoy’s Kevin Wendell Crumb (who Shyamalan cast when he saw the actor after he had filmed X-Men: Apocalypse) was originally a part of the script to the movie, but the part was instead revised into the character who Bruce Willis’s David Dunn fights at the end of the movie instead, as Crumb’s backstory was more extensive.
Samuel L. Jackson Likes Mr. Glass For Being Complex
Jackson noted that he was happy to return to the role and that he thinks it’s interesting to play a quiet character who has a strong will in contrast to his many action roles where he just takes names. He also made a joke noting “I don’t play the same motherf***er every time!” to approval from the crowd.
Bruce Willis Filmed His Split Cameo On The Cheap
Speaking of Willis, the actor revealed that he didn’t ask for a lot of money to film the post-credits scene to Split, which revealed that the movie was a part of the same universe established by Unbreakable (the film’s sole plot twist).
Glass Filmed In A Real Mental Hospital
Shyamalan and the team decided against making sets and instead opted to use a real (albeit empty) mental hospital as a place to film many of the movie’s scenes. Sarah Paulson described it as the coldest place she’s ever filmed a movie.
We Will See All Of Kevin’s Split Personalities
While Split was advertised as showing Kevin’s 23 split personalities, the movie only focused on about five of them and only offered glimpses at a few of the others. One thing revealed at the panel is that we’ll see more of Kevin’s personas introduced in Split and the remaining personalities in the rest of the movie.
The Trailer
Lastly, the panel closed with a trailer, which can be seen below:
Glass will be released on January 18, 2019.
