Fans Get a Long Awaited First Look at ‘Young Justice: Outsiders’

Young Justice
“It was all of you that helped bring us back” the creative team told fans at SDCC this morning as they revealed the first trailer for the long awaited return of Young Justice.

The five minute long trailer began with a recap of season two’s heart breaking finale before launching into new footage from the upcoming revival.

Spoiler warning. If you’ve not seen Young Justice then I highly recommend you stop reading now and don’t watch the video. During the panel it was confirmed that the first two seasons will also be available on the DC Universe platform, so wait and enjoy the full series from the beginning.

Still with me? Here we go;

The new footage implies that the team has split up since the events of Young Justice: Invasion, whilst introducing the meta-human trafficking story that will bring the team back together and drive most of the season.

The footage showcases plenty of fan favorite characters from the first two seasons, and introduces plenty of new faces as well. Most notably Prince Brion and Princess Tara of Markovia, better known to comic book readers as Geo-Force and Terra. With Tara being one of the abducted meta-human children, we can probably expect them both to suit up during this season.

Outsiders

As the name suggests, the Outsiders comic did serve as an inspiration for this season, and some of the original Outsiders (such as Halo) will appear on the show. But that’s not the only reason for the name. During the panel the creative team revealed that most of the new characters this season will start out not knowing who they want to be as heroes. They are outsiders, unlike the original team who were primarily sidekicks and already established heroes before they came together.

One such new character is Forager. An alien from another planet, he sees Earth differently from the others and will play a key role in the series. Voiced by Jason Spisak (Wally West), Forager is said to bring a levity to the show, just as Wally did in previous seasons.

Young Justice Grows Up

Speaking of the move to the DC Universe platform, the panellists said that it allowed them to do more. The scripts are more mature this season and the designs are darker. Don’t expect any Titans style “**** Batman”, but it allows for a deeper maturity. The characters are aging, and they are dealing with the lives they have chosen to lead. That’s something they can now delve into a little deeper without the restrictions they had before.

Q&A

The creative team refused to drop any spoilers when answering the audiences’ questions, but they did confirm a few extra details.

There’s no Teen Titans team in the Young Justice universe but we may see some of those characters this season.

Nearly every character from the first two seasons will return at some point during Outsiders.

Unusual for DC, there are no character embargos for Young Justice. The whole DCU is available to them.

Seven episodes have already been completed.

Outsiders might not be the end of the story! That’s right, if the demand is there we could get a fourth season and the team would love to do it. So if you love Young Justice make sure you binge watch it a few times when it launches next year.

The DC Universe streaming service launches later this year with Young Justice: Outsiders set to debut in 2019.
