‘Captain America: Brave New World’ Taps Matthew Orton To Write New Scenes For Additional Photography in 2024

Captain America: Brave New World was pushed back from its planned May 3, 2024, to February 2025 earlier this fall. At the time, word got out there that this was because Marvel needed additional photography on the film. Now, Deadline is confirming those rumors.

According to the trade, Julius Onah and his team will be back on set for a long additional photography period in the spring-summer of next year. And they have one new addition, as Matthew Orton, who did some punch-ups on Moon Knight, will be writing some of the new scenes for the film. Dalan Musson and Malcolm Spellman wrote the previously shot draft. The current cut is said to have major issues.

The cast includes Anthony Mackie, Liv Tyler, Harrison Ford, Shira Haas, Tim Blake Nelson, Rosa Salazar, Danny Ramirez, and Carl Lumbly.  The film is set for a February 14, 2025, date.

The news also came out as Jonathan Majors’ New York trial is set to start opening statements tomorrow. Meanwhile, the court released damning audio evidence along with alarming text messages that displayed Majors’ self-absorbed personality. It’s practically a matter of time before we get an official announcement that the company is moving on from his iteration of Kang the Conqueror (and variants).

In the meantime, though, it seems like Marvel is very high on next year’s Deadpool 3, which could likely become the biggest film of 2024 at the box office. Ryan Reynolds, Hugh Jackman, and Shawn Levy all returned to the cold London set this month, and are expected to finish filming the pic after the holiday break. It will be the only Marvel film out in 2024.

The studio will air the second season of the animated What If…? on December 22, with the limited series Echo out on January 10. They also announced earlier this week that the animated series Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man (previously titled Spider-Man: Freshman Year) will come out in 2024, along with X-Men ’97 (which is already recording its second season). Also out on Disney Plus next year will be Agatha: Darkhold Diaries (or whatever the name turns out to be), likely around Halloween.
