‘Argylle’: First Trailer Released for Matthew Vaughn’s New Film

Argylle

After doing about a dozen Kingsman movies (or so it felt), Matthew Vaughn is back… in the spy-thriller genre. The first trailer for Argylle, which Universal will distribute in theaters early next year before it goes to Apple TV Plus, is now available, and it actually looks like a lot of fun.

Much like I did, you may have a lot of not-so-positive thoughts after checking out the first 20 seconds of the trailer, so all I’m asking before you hit Play is this: wait until it’s finished. Without furder ado, watch the trailer below:

There are really no words to describe how ridiculous the movie looks at some point, yet it’s filled with Vaughn’s classic energy, sense of humor, and visual style, which are enough to elevate it from the average over-the-top spy thriller and also enough to pique my interest. The only element I’m slightly worried about is the cat — I don’t understand its place in the narrative and whether or not it will be something other than a recurring joke throughout the film.

The cast includes Henry Cavill, Bryce Dallas Howard, Sam Rockwell, Bryan Cranston, Catherine O’Hara, John Cena, Dua Lipa, Ariana DeBose, and Samuel L. Jackson. Matthew Vaughn directs from a script by Jason Fuchs. Argylle will premiere in theaters on February 2.
