Andy Muschietti Officially Announced as ‘Brave and the Bold’ Director; Signs First-Look Deal With Warners

Andy Muschietti The Brave and the Bold

The studio has confirmed the report from a few weeks ago by One Take News, and it is now official that The Flash director Andy Muschietti will be tackling The Brave and the Bold for DC Studios. His sister Barbara Muschietti will be producing.

James Gunn and Peter Safran confirmed the news to Variety, giving the following statement:

“We saw ‘The Flash’ even before taking the reins at DC Studios, and knew we were in the hands of not only a visionary director but a massive DC fan. It’s a magnificent film – funny, emotional, thrilling – and Andy’s affinity and passion for these characters and this world just resonates through every frame. So, when it came time to find a director for ‘The Brave and the Bold,’ there was really only one choice. Luckily, Andy said yes. Barbara signed on to produce with us and we were on our way. They’re an extraordinary team, and we couldn’t have better or more inspiring partners as we embark on this thrilling new adventure in the DCU.”

According to The Hollywood Reporter, ink on the deal is still fresh after being finally signed earlier this week, coinciding with the release of The Flash. No screenwriter has been attached yet, but THR says The Flash scribe Christina Hodson has been courted to write the film. However, she may have passed in favor of a Fast and Furious movie (which may also be news in and of itself). Given the writers’ strike, the story has seen no development.

Also in related news, The Hollywood Reporter has also learned that Barbara and Andy Muschietti, through their Double Dream banner, have signed a first-look deal with Warner Bros. Film and Warner Bros. TV. It will last for three years and will allow them to “develop large-scale features” that Muschietti may also opt to direct. In addition to The Brave and the Bold (and, according to reports, potentially even a sequel to The Flash), the duo is also working on Max’s It prequel, Welcome to Derry.

Co-chairs and CEOs of Warner Bros. Motion Picture Group Michael De Luca and Pam Abdy said in a statement:

“We couldn’t be more thrilled to strengthen our longstanding partnership with these unceasingly driven, incredibly gifted filmmakers. Between Andy’s singular skill and vision as a director and Barbara’s sharp, far-sighted instincts as a producer, they’re a true filmmaking dream team, and channel their lifelong passion into films that deliver as both compelling human stories and heart-pounding crowd pleasers. It’s one of the reasons their movies connect so broadly and powerfully with audiences all over the world, and dovetails perfectly with the kinds of films we want to make.”

Chairman and CEO of Warner Bros. Television Group, Channing Dungey, added the following:

“Andy and Barbara are singular artists whose vision and passion for Welcome to Derry has blown us away. We cannot wait for fans to see this next captivating — and horrifying! — chapter of the IT universe when it comes to Max. We are excited to continue our partnership, and we look forward to telling many more stories with them in the future.”

The filmmakers added the following:

“Warner Bros. has been an incredible partner to us for years now, but more than that, Warners has been part of our whole lives. We were watching movies before we could walk, and we spent our formative years as kids at the drive-in, and now we are joining the Warner Bros. family. It feels like a full-circle moment. Knowing Pam and Mike as long as we have really makes it feel like home. And we couldn’t be more excited to continue working with Channing and Brett Paul on the Television side.”

The Brave and the Bold does not have a release date yet. It is anticipated it will be the third theatrical release in the DCU, after Superman: Legacy, which bows July 11, 2025, and The Authority, which does not have a release date either (nor a creative team announced).
