Tobias Menzies Joins Brad Pitt-Led Formula One Film From Joseph Kosinski
Gran Turismo is not the only race car-focused film coming down the pipeline, as Apple is putting together quite the crew for a yet-untitled Formula One story. The Crown star Tobias Menzies is the latest to join the party.
Variety is reporting on Menzies’ casting as the latest addition to a crew headlined by Brad Pitt. The Banshees of Inisherin breakout star Kerry Condon is also part of the project, along with Snowfall‘s Damson Idris. Joseph Kosinski, coming in hot after the tremendous success of Top Gun: Maverick, is directing and producing; Maverick scribe Ehren Kruger wrote the script. Production will begin this summer and the film will shoot across several Grand Prixes.
Apple Studios is backing the project and will handle the distribution. The project is also backed by the Formula One community, with seven-time champion Lewis Hamilton producing via his Dawn Apollo Films company; Formula One, the ten teams in the competition, and the FIA (Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile) are all participating in the project as well. Jerry Bruckheimer and Chad Oman are producing via Jerry Bruckheimer Films. Brad Pitt is also producing through Plan B.
Tobias Menzies is the Emmy-winning actor who played Prince Philip in seasons 3-4 of The Crown. He was last seen in the A24, Julia Louis-Dreyfus-led You Hurt My Feelings. He is also known to Game of Thrones fans as Edmure Tully, and will next be seen in Apple TV Plus’ Manhunt.
No release date has been set for the project.
Miguel Fernández is a Spanish student that has movies as his second passion in life. His favorite movie of all time is The Lord of the Rings, but he is also a huge Star Wars fan. However, fantasy movies are not his only cup of tea, as authors like Scorsese, Fincher, Kubrick or Hitchcock have been an obsession for him since he started to understand the language of filmmaking. He is that guy who will watch a black and white movie, just because it is in black and white.
