This week, Disney released trailers for two of their live-action projects coming out in the next few months — they are Peter Pan and Wendy, which also announced an April 28 release date on Disney Plus, and Haunted Mansion, which is coming out at the end of July in theaters.

First came Peter Pan and Wendy, from director David Lowery (The Green Knight, Pete’s Dragon), which is headlined by Jude Law’s Captain Hook and acts as a new iteration of the 1953 classic Disney film. Check out the new trailer here:

The film was announced to be released exclusively on Disney Plus a couple of years ago, in what could be an attempt from Disney to either try to pump the subscribers (a strategy Warner Bros. Discovery boss David Zaslav notoriously disagrees with), or directly hide it from consumers and cut their losses because it’s not in good shape. Turning Red and Pinocchio could be good examples of films that followed each of those paths, respectively, over the past year.

Here is the official synopsis for the film:

“A Disney+ Original movie, ‘Peter Pan & Wendy’ is a live-action reimagining of the J.M. Barrie novel and the 1953 animated classic, directed by David Lowery, streaming 2023, only on Disney+. The film introduces Wendy Darling, a young girl afraid to leave her childhood home behind who meets Peter Pan, a boy who refuses to grow up. Alongside her brothers and a tiny fairy, Tinker Bell, she travels with Peter to the magical world of Neverland. There, she encounters an evil pirate captain, Captain Hook, and embarks on a thrilling and dangerous adventure that will change her life forever.”

The script comes from David Lowery and Toby Halbrooks, and the cast includes Jude Law, Alexander Molony, Ever Anderson, Yara Shahidi, Alyssa Wapanatâhk, Joshua Pickering, Jacobi Jupe, Molly Parker, Alan Tudyk, and Jim Gaffigan. Check out the poster for Peter Pan and Wendy here:

The film premieres in theaters on July 28, after moving up a few weeks following Marvel Studios’ delay of The Marvels. The cast includes LaKeith Stanfield, Tiffany Haddish, Owen Wilson, Danny DeVito, Rosario Dawson, Chase W. Dillon, Dan Levy, and Jamie Lee Curtis, with Jared Leto also on board as the infamous Hatbox Ghost.
