Marvel’s ‘Thunderbolts’ Adds Steven Yeun in Key Role

The cast of the upcoming Thunderbolts has just seen a huge boost in talent with the addition of Oscar-nominated actor Steven Yeun.

Deadline is reporting that the Minari and Nope actor has been cast in the huge Marvel film, in a role that will be significant to the ensemble piece, but also to the larger MCU going forward. Announced at last year’s D23, the cast will also include Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova, David Harbour as Red Guardian, Sebastian Stan as the Winter Soldier (de facto leader of the group), Wyatt Russell as US Agent, Hannah John-Kamen as Ghost, Olga Kurylenko as Taskmaster, and Julia Louis-Dreyfus as Valentina Allegra de Fontaine. Harrison Ford is also rumored to be appearing as Thunderbolt Ross (previously played by the late William Hurt) after making his MCU debut in Captain America: New World Order.

The film, scheduled to hit theaters on July 26, 2024, is looking to go into production within the next few weeks. Plot details are being kept tightly under wraps, but David Harbour has teased in the past that it will introduce a new element into the Marvel mythology, and rumor has it this could be where we first see adamantium (which is also rumored to be tied to Tiamut Island). Also according to rumors, Sentry could be the antagonist — or one of the antagonists — of the film. Whether Yeun will be playing that role is currently unknown.

Black Widow screenwriter Eric Pearson is at the keyboard for the event film, which will act as a spiritual sequel to the 2021 film starring Scarlett Johansson — Johansson could also be a producer on the project. Jake Schreier (Minx, The Premise series) is directing.
