‘Babylon’ Is as Crazy as ‘The Wolf of Wall Street’, Says Margot Robbie; New Image Released
With only one more month to go before the release of Damien Chazelle’s highly-discussed new film, Babylon, the marketing campaign is now in full swing. A new featurette capturing the behind-the-scenes making of the movie has been released, plus a brand-new image was just revealed.
In an interview with Empire Magazine, Margot Robbie compared Babylon to her breakout film, The Wolf of Wall Street, and said that it might be as crazy as Scorsese’s modern classic:
“I remember being on set for [‘The Wolf Of Wall Street’] and thinking, ‘I’ll never be in a film as crazy as this ever again. And then I made ‘Babylon’. There’s a dizzying amount of debauchery. One of the most disturbing, chaotic scenes I’ve ever witnessed is in this film, and it involves a fight with a snake. I won’t tell you who wins or loses that fight, but trust me, it’s insane.”
Of course, we saw a small portion of that scene in the trailer, with Robbie’s character, Nellie LaRoy, asking out loud “Who wants to see me fight a f*ing snake?” right before the entire party she’s in cheers her to do it. Director Damien Chazelle also explained the basic idea of what he wanted to achieve with the film:
“Hollywood back then was a place where, from the most depraved animalistic behaviour, emerged these works of art that were so beautiful and alluring. 1920s Hollywood really was a cesspool of vice, hubris and excess. We tried to put that on screen. All of it.”

The movie will come out in theaters on December 23. The cast includes Margot Robbie, Diego Calva, Brad Pitt, Jovan Adepo, Li Jun Li, Jean Smart, Tobey Maguire, Olivia Wilde, and Spike Jonze, among many others. It had its first screening for industry members earlier this month, and scored mixed reviews, with some critics praising it as one of the best movies of the year, and others pointing out it was an irredeemable mess. Full reviews have not come out yet, but expect the Rotten Tomatoes score to not be as glowing as it was for La La Land or Whiplash, Chazelle’s previous box office and critical hits — First Man resonated with critics, but failed to make much money. It remains to be seen how well it will play with audiences, but many Oscar predictions are already crossing it off the list in many categories like Best Picture or Best Director.
